Saturday: After a long and torturous trip over the Atlantic (economy is for the birds these days), we arrived in Paris to find that our tickets for the next leg to Bordeaux had been mysteriously cancelled by Delta. After a few harrowing minutes to get re-booked back onto a nearly-full flight, we arrived at our ship in Bordeaux, sans luggage.

Seriously jet-lagged and without the means to change clothes we awaited our lost bags. Luckily Delta airlines now uses RFID technology in their baggage tags so the airport authorities knew that the 2 bags were still at Charles De Gaulle airport in Paris and,  within a couple of hours, we were able to shower, shave and sweeten up, in time for a well-deserved drink and dinner.

Bordeaux, like us, is a refreshed city, cleaned up some 15 years ago, with the river area cleared of ugly warehouses and factories, now converted into pedestrian and bicycle lanes.

A wonderful mirror pond reflects some of the central buildings of Bordeaux as can be seen in a couple of the images below.

The impressive fountains, which were dismantled by the Germans during the Second World War, for transportation to Germany, were intercepted by French Resistance and hidden until the fountains were eventually restored in the 1980’s by the new city Mayor. He was the one who tore down the warehouses and cleaned up the city.

Sunday: We undertook a bus and walking tour of the city this morning to learn some more
about the history of the region. We will be sailing within a half hour on our way to some wine growing areas, including a trip to the town and region of Sauternes.

This afternoon we also practiced for an emergency drill on the ship
